VOLCANO SURFING

Watch the lava under a full moon

Telica in moonlightAs the glowing lava is best visible in the dark and the trails are well lit up by the light of the full moon we offer a monthly special to Volcán Telica. Every month when the moon is full we climb in the darkness of the night under a sky of stars to the top of this volcano.

We leave León at night by private transport to the village where the hike starts. With only the full moon to light up the paths we walk through cornfields and forest till we arrive at the crater before sunrise. While it is still dark we peek into the spectacular, more than 130 meters deep crater with glowing lava in the bottom. We wait for the sun to rise, have breakfast and then start our way down to the village of San Jacinto. In the village we visit the famous bubbling mud pools, have lunch in a local comedor and head back to León.

Start at 10:30 pm in Quetzaltrekkers office
Back the next day at 2:00 pm in Quetzaltrekkers office.

Minimum Donation: 35 US$
